A Red Lip

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I remember the first time I dared to try a bold red lip. I was 17 years-old and I was a junior in high school. This was around the time when I began following fashion blogs like it was my religion. One of my favorite fashion icons and bloggers Ashley Madweke ‘AKA’ Ring My Bell wore a bold red lip in one of her blog posts and I was determined to recreate her look. I chose the cheapest lipstick I could find. It was an NYC lipstick in a bright bold red shade. That’s when I fell in love with a red lip. There is just something about wearing a bold red color that makes me feel like I can take on the world. No one and nothing can stop me. I love wearing a red lip on my best days and especially on my worst. On days when I am filled to the brim with self-doubt and insecurities, I grab my favorite red lip color, slather it on my lips, and instantly feel better. Well, that and I listen to “Independent Women, Pt. I” by Destiny’s Child on repeat.

Sincerely,
Alexis Renae Griggs
